Phoenix Academy Beats Walton Raiders 39 to 0 at Independence Field

The resurrected Walton Raiders team made their debut against league champions Phoenix on Saturday on the grass field at Independence High School in Milton.

Walton started the game with great spirit and, although confined to their own half throughout the first period, made tackle after tackle on a Phoenix team that seemed to lack real conviction. The score at half time was 10 to 0 in favor of Phoenix and this was a solid performance from the embryonic Walton team, many of whom were playing their very first game of rugby. Some stern words from the Phoenix coaches at half time energized the previously anemic Phoenix players and the second half saw a flurry of scoring leaving the final result at Phoenix 39; Walton 0.  A promising result for Walton but a pretty uninspiring result for Phoenix who seemed to be operating at half speed, especially in the forwards. The upcoming game with Charlotte Catholic in Charlotte will require a great deal more from this team. Of particular note was the High School season debut of Eric Cooper at prop --- a solid all round performance.
